Dapper is a US company with offices in Tel Aviv, Israel. Founded by Eran Shir and Jon Aizen in late 2005, Dapper aims to make it easy and possible for anyone to extract and reuse content from any website. By doing so, we hope to allow others to realize their creativity and implement new and exciting services and applications. You can read more about our vision on our blog.
Executive Team and Board
Eran Shir, Cofounder and CEO: Eran, a Technion physics masters graduate has been dreaming of Dapper for many years. Prior to Dapper, he founded and steered a large-scale, internationally acclaimed Internet research project called DIMES. Earlier, Eran co-founded and served as the CTO of Cogniview.
Jon Aizen, Cofounder and CTO: Jon, a Cornell CS graduate has been engineering web applications since 1994. He has extensive experience with large-scale, high-profile web projects. His previous experience includes Alexa Internet and the Internet Archive. Jon served as the pioneer and sole web engineer of the Archive's website which is accessed by millions of visitors each month, as well as having, with the help of many others, established the Live Music Archive.
Sam Somech, Chairman of the Board: Sam Somech is one of the world's leading experts on middleware messaging technologies. An experienced and successful entrepreneur, he has an extensive track record transforming new technologies into profitable new businesses - from initial concepts to development and commercialization. Sam was the president, CTO and co-founder of Level 8 (NASD: LVEL), as well as founder and CEO of Data Voice Systems, where he developed the concept for the first transactional messaging product, which was the foundation of IBM MQSeries. Sam received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Technion University in Israel, an M.Sc in computer science from Columbia University and an MBA from Baruch College.
Bruce Golden, Accel Partners, Member of the Board: Bruce Golden has been focused on emerging markets and technologies since 1984. At Accel, Bruce specializes in Internet, e-commerce, and enterprise software investments. Prior to that, Bruce was at Illustra Information Technologies, a database start-up that merged with Informix Software, where Bruce became an executive officer. Prior to Illustra, Bruce spent almost eight years at Sun Microsystems in a variety of roles, with particular focus on developing as yet untapped markets. Bruce was also a founding member of the Sun Asia subsidiary and served as the company's Director of Marketing for Asia. Bruce holds an MBA from Stanford and a BA from Columbia University.
Dr. Jacob Ukelson, Vice President of Products: Dr. Jacob Ukelson is a well respected technology figure, with a proven track record of excellence and leadership. Previously, Dr. Ukelson was CTO of Itemfield (acquired by Informatica), as well as CTO and Business Development Manager for IBM's Global Technology Unit. Prior to these roles, Dr. Ukelson was a department general manager at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Lab in New York, managing a group of 130 cross-disciplinary researchers focused on creating the next generation of the Internet at the middleware and application level. Dr. Ukelson received his Doctorate of Science in computer science from the Technion University in Israel. Dr. Ukelson has been published in many technical journals and has spoken at conferences worldwide. In 1997 Dr. Ukelson received the Alexander C. Williams Ergonomics and Human Factors Award from the Human Factors Society.
